All modules on page deleted after auto configure

Maybe this is normal, but reading the Installation Guide, it isn't clear.

Instructions state "Add the XModIDE module to any page (temporary)"

I added it to an existing page and clicked Auto Configure link. Configuration was successful and the message that the "Module would self destruct" when I navigated off the page was displayed. It didn't say ALL modules on the page would be deleted, but that is what happened.

Did I misunderstand the instructions or is this a problem? If this is normal, maybe it should be stated in the Installation Guide.

Ed

Re: All modules on page deleted after auto configure

Hi,

It should only remove only the Installer module from the page... Just checked the code and it seems correct. But we've had many problems with the installer due to poorly behaving DNN APIs...

Will do some tests and come back to you.

Thanks for bringing this to us.

Re: All modules on page deleted after auto configure

Quick update, you will find your deleted modules in the Recycle Bin. You can restore them from there.

Re: All modules on page deleted after auto configure

Thanks for the quick response. I did recover the modules from the recycle bin, fortunately I picked a page with only a couple in case there was a problem. Happy to hear you found the problem and will get it fixed.

Re: All modules on page deleted after auto configure

Another note on this topic (I know you have already found the cause).

When I move off the page that had the Installer, I get logged out of the site. This has happend both times I've tried to install this module. And regarding the initial problem, it seems the modules get deleted at the time the Installer Module is placed on the page, not when moving to another page after running the Installer as previously stated. (noticed that on my second attempt)

Again, thanks for the prompt response you give to questions on this board.

Re: All modules on page deleted after auto configure

Hi Ed,

I have not been able to reproduce the logged out issue. We are restarting the portal after the page has been created to avoid problems with custom 3rd party friendly url providers. But normally, the authentication cookie should still be valid and you should still be logged in.

I wil add this to the list of things to eventually check out, but it's not considered critical (especially on sunday!!)

Re: All modules on page deleted after auto configure

I use the FastLogin module written by Michael Washington, so maybe it is hosing something up. If I load the module on another site, I'll login normally first and see if that makes a difference.

What's with this "especially on Sunday" comment? Don't you guys work 24/7 like the rest of us?

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Re: All modules on page deleted after auto configure

The problem is probably that the FastLogin module doesn't use an approach that enables the authentication to be valid after an application restart. If we remove the application restart, worse things are going to happen, so it will stay this way.

We are offering support on weekends on demand. When there is a post on the forums, I receive a SMS message, then have to get to our offices to answer the forum post, which is a 2 hour ride from where I live. I was halfway back home when I got paged for this second message.

Re: All modules on page deleted after auto configure

Sorry to have caused you such grief !

None of my posts warranted such a fast response and I'll certainly keep that in mind with any future posts. I get accustomed to not seeing even a reply, much less a fix, when reporting problems with other products, I didn't even consider you would go to such lengths.

Have you considered putting a PC in your home? You could at least reply to the post saying "Hey, its the weekend dummy! I'll get right on your problem on Monday"  (just kidding of course)

You and your company are a rare find in the DNN community! Keep up the good work, but enjoy your weekends!

Re: All modules on page deleted after auto configure

Hi Ed,

No worries, I was kidding with the last post! ;) Glad you fell for it !! No offense, was just having some sunday fun!... I actually didn't work on friday, that is why I was working on sunday.

Glad to know you are happy with our support. Keep reporting issues when you encounter them. We try to test as much as we can, but we cannot test every possible scenarios, so we need some input from the users. Also, if you want to help us out, writing a snowcovered review is always helpful. Reviews gives us more exposure, which result in more sales, which in turn result in us investing more time into the product, that eventually benefits to you with added features in new versions.

Have a nice day Ed,

Etienne
