Must be in Edit Mode before Launching XMod IDE

I could not find this documented, but might be helpful to other first-time users of your product. (DNN 4.9.1 - XModIDE 2.0.0)

Issue #1.
If you launch XMod IDE with your DNN site in View Mode, you get a blank screen with only the DNN Control Panel visible. Switch to Edit Mode and XMod IDE will become visible, but the Page View Window is blank. Select a page from the XMod IDE control panel and it will be visible, but the initial Home tab remains blank, even after Refresh.

Issue #2
When using XMod IDE, you switch to View Mode in the Page View Window (which I do often when laying out a page), mode changes as expected. But if you try to load another page from the IDE Control Panel before switching back to Edit Mode, all website pages and XMod pages listed in the IDE Control Panel disappear and selection of anything from the Tools Menu returns a blank page. The only way I found to get things back to normal is exit XMod IDE and re-launch.

Issue #3 (minor compared to #1 & 2)
If you use your DNN Menu to change pages in the Page View Window, the IDE tab does not reflect the new page name. Granted, this is probably nit-picking and not really a problem, just something I noticed when working with the other two issues.

Solutions
Always stay in Edit Mode and Only use the IDE Control Panel to change pages.

Re: Must be in Edit Mode before Launching XMod IDE

Hi Ed,

#1) confirmed, will debug this

#2) same category of problem, will run all tests under View Mode to make sure everything is fine

#3) we are aware of this problem, but we consider there would be too much effort to put at it than it would benefit afterwards. When you open a page, the tab is named after the page you are opening, and it isn't updated afterwards.

There would be a lot of scenarios to consider to make this perfect. The page name can change for many reaons: navigate to another page, edit page name from page settings, etc. etc. We would have to be able to intercept all possible page name changes, which represent a lot of work. Also, we ensure that only one window is opened for a particular page, so that if you click on that page again in the menu, it reuses the same window. When navigating to another page, if that page is already opened, we would have another class of problems.

If you think this is critical, please tell us. But we would rather spend some time on implementing new cool features, such as code snippets and keyboard shortcuts, than spend much time to work this issue out.

Thanks for reporting these problems Ed.

Etienne

Re: Must be in Edit Mode before Launching XMod IDE

I agree with you on #3. I didn't really consider it a big problem, just something I noticed. I can understand the problems involved in trying to make it work, so my vote would be to direct your energy elsewhere.

Thanks for looking into #1 & #2.

Ed

Re: Must be in Edit Mode before Launching XMod IDE

These issues have been fixed in v2.01.

#2 required a lot of investigation, and required a custom hack that we have implemented into the skin. Upgrade will require to reinstall the XMod IDE Skin.

Let us know if you still have issues.

Thanks,

Etienne

Your magic worked!

I downloaded 2.01 this morning and all seems to work as expected. Thanks for your prompt response!
