language selector options?

If I understand things correctly, your module is built to pick up a language automatically from the browser settings, however if I need to have language selector buttons on each page in my portal to switch between two languages I have two options:

  1. create a text link on the english version of each page that would link to the french version of each page (and vice versa), and the rest of the localization settings would automatically get picked up based on the language of the page I'd land on

  2. Or if I was a programmer, create a language selector control, as there isn't one build in with the module

So given that I'm not a programmer, and if I understand the functionality correctly from the users guide, I'd have to use option 1, correct? I'd have to set all of the language links manually?

Re: language selector options?

and option 3) use the DNN language selector (flags)

With any of these options, the switch from one language to another language will redirect the user to the localized home page for the language. It will not switch to the same page on the target language. The reason for this is that there is no association between pages in different languages. You can implement yourself such association if you really need this functionality, but I personally do not believe it is worth the effort. Generally, when you browse a site, you select your language at first and then browse in that language. If you arrive from a search engine, you are already on the proper language since you have searched for terms in your target language.

Re: language selector options?

Hi,

This looks like a nice contribution. I will add a link to your solution in the documentation.

Thanks

Re: language selector options?

Hi,

I just installed the Laborion Language Selector and it works great! Now my multilanguage functionality on www.actionmaker.be is complete thanks to the Adequation Language Extensions and the Laborion Language Selector, this is quiet a killer combination.

Thanks a lot guys, you saved me from lot's of implementation headaches :)
